...I began brainstorming for this project with the thought in mind that I wanted to make classic forms of literature more accessible to modern minded audiences. Seeing as I will be an educator somewhere in my future, I try to find ways to make the content presented in class into something that students find relatable, making it easier for them to understand and appreciate its value. This project was no different in this way. I hope to take a couple poems by William Blake and find a way, through digital media, to represent them with modern and current issues that students might connect to in some way. With that being said, I have decided to hone in on Blake’s “The Chimney Sweeper” from both "Songs of Innocence" and "Songs of Experience" so that I can highlight the various differences and similarities in each of them. So, I guess what I want to say most here is that even though William Blake was writing to his specific time period in industrializing England, his message has found a way to span centuries due to its universality of the need to treat people in a more humane manner.
